World White Canes Safety Day
PESHAWAR, 15 October 2016: The World White Cane Safety Day is being observed worldwide including Pakistan to educate people about the rights of Visually Impaired Persons (VIP). To mark the day, a ceremony was organized at the Government Institute for blind Nanak Pura Peshawar on Saturday 15th October 2016. Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani was the Chief Guest on the occasion organized by Basic Awareness Rehabilitation And Networking(BARAN) in coordination with Pakistan of the Bind (PAB). Teachers of the school and students along with people from different societies attended the function. Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani while addressing on the occasion said the Provincial Government had been taking steps to resolves problems being faced by the Visually Impaired Persons (VIP). Honorable Chief Guest thanked BARAN Organization for provision of White Canes and issued an appreciation certificate in recognition. She said the high schools for blind children would soon be established in each division of the province. She further said that province’s own brail printing press would soon be made operational which would help in printing course books for blind students. Qari Saad Noor, head of the association of blind people said the purpose to observe the day was to educate people to extend helping hand to a person having white cane in hand. “People need to be educated to help blind people having problems in communication. Besides, there are other problems being faced by visually impaired people such education and job opportunities. The government should take steps to provide every possible support to blind people,”.
